ABOUT ME

Theresa Gibson

Reiki Master & Teacher

In 1992 my marriage broke down and I found myself at home with my 18-month-old son. I had left my job as a Nuclear Medicine Radiographer in London and had come back up to Lancaster. I am not the sort of person to sit about and do nothing, so I enrolled on an IHBC Beauty Therapy Course at the local College. Consequently, I was awarded the Stella Baxter Trophy for best part time beauty therapy student. This motivated me to additionally obtain diplomas in Aromatherapy, Indian Head Massage and Reflexology from the same college. As most Nuclear Medicine patients were from an oncology background, this aspect of holistic therapies assisted me with relaxation techniques for some of them, and instigated a mutual conversation point, as some of them were participating in holistic treatments at the Hospice through Cancer Concern.

Upon receiving these qualifications, I then started my own business as a mobile beauty therapist, also working 1 day a week at my local hair salon, alongside doing bank Radiography shifts. I then went back to college and did my Advanced Aromatherapy Course where I was introduced to Reiki.

I felt a huge connection with this relaxing healing modality and so after studying Spiritual Healing, I then progressed to Reiki becoming a Reiki Master and Teacher. I now teach Reiki and am a member of the UK Reiki Federation and the Federation of Holistic Therapists. I am also a Radiographer working in the oncology arena doing PETCT scans.

The majority (95%) of the scans are for oncology and the patients are very worried and stressed as well as some of them being claustrophobic and needle phobic. At my last appraisal I was tasked to find ways to enable patients to be more relaxed and to try to help them with issues of claustrophobia (which could ultimately prevent them from undertaking the scan). I completed an “Introduction to trauma sensitive mindfulness and MRE (Mindful Resilience Engagement) Conversion Course” with The Christie Hospital.

I strongly believe that the NHS needs to add "Complementary Therapies" to people chronically ill with diabetes, depression, autoimmune diseases, and stress related conditions. The NHS is undeniably essential for treating acute illness and accident and emergency situations, however, “Complementary Therapies” need to be part of the NHS and used to deal with these chronic illnesses. It is my passion to see this happen, but I am aware that the NHS is very much evidence-based medicine and so to this end we need to have more research and scientific papers to prove that mindfulness and energy healing do work and can make a huge difference to people’s health and healing abilities. I have just completed an MSc in Mindfulness and Compassion from Coventry University and graduated with a distinction, this can enable me to be accepted in the medical community as a serious and effective healer and teacher.

Recently I have been studying and researching the placebo effect and the power of the mind in healing situations. My husband is a professional musician and sound therapist and so we are aware of the amount of scientific evidence documented to prove how sound as well as meditation can affect the brain and the brain waves. I would relish the opportunity to be able to teach Mindfulness, Reiki, and Energy Medicine to the doctors of the future in a healthcare setting that wasn’t ridiculed and undermined. This, I believe, is the future of the NHS.

Throughout 2021, I have studied and been awarded the degree of Master of Science with Distinction in Mindfulness and Compassion with Coventry University. I am thrilled to be giving the opportunity to further my experience, qualification's and treatments for my clients and I am excited to take this further into 2022.

Phil Gibson

Sound Therapist

I am a musician and composer with 35 years of experience. I studied orchestral percussion, drums and piano and have taught myself many instruments and now play a variety of world flutes, Indian tabla and drums from around the world.

I am a sound healer and sound therapist. I use Tibetan and crystal singing bowls to take you to a state of deep relaxation. I also use tuning forks, flutes, gongs, shamanic rattles and drums as well as the power of the voice to heal.

The results are waves of peace, heightened awareness and relaxation of the mind, body and spirit. Some people experience emotional healing, others great insights into their lives.

A sound healing can be an unforgettable experience for those who seek deep relaxation, rejuvenation and acceleration of their inward journey. Time is suspended as you enter a world of vibration, sensation and experience. Physical injuries can be healed and old emotional traumas released as well as great insights being accessed.
